Academics/BJU

Happy Hollow Christian Academy has chosen to use BJU Press Curriculum for our academic, biblical instruction and support for Pre-K through 8th grade. “BJU Press is committed to Christian education. We support Christian educators by producing textbooks and materials that shape a biblical worldview, are academically rigorous, encourage critical thinking, and are supported with technology solutions.” Check out the links below to explore the curriculum.

Curriculum Policy

Infants Through 3 Year

Happy Hollow Child Care Center uses the Georgia Early Learning Development Standards (GELDS) and the research based best practices outlined in the Environment Rating Scales (ERS) as foundations for our program curriculum. At its simplest, curriculum is defined as what to teach and how to teach it. The points of the “curriculum star” outline the important points we remember when implementing a good curriculum.
Our curriculum addresses goals in these areas of development: Physical Development and Motor skills (PDM), Social and Emotional Development (SED), Approaches to Learning and Play (APL), Communication, Language and Literacy (CLL), and Cognitive Development and General Knowledge (CD). Teaching staff use a variety of published resources along with GELDS for planning weekly lesson plans including The Encyclopedias of Activities (Infants/Toddlers) and Learn Every Day (Preschool). Weekly Bible education is provided from the Beginners Bible and Beginners Bible for Toddlers.
The philosophy behind our curriculum is that young children learn best by doing. Our Daily Classroom Schedules provided for a wide variety of hands-on experiences and active involvement with a well-planned environment so that children begin to learn about the world around them. Positive peer interactions and intentional teacher interactions further promote development.

Pre-K Through 8th Grade

Happy Hollow Christian Academy uses a curriculum from BJU Press. As Christians, we have a greater purpose in education than simply gathering knowledge. The curriculum is written with the ultimate goal to train each child to see God’s hand in math, science, history, literature, and fine arts. BJU Press materials support the teacher with materials and lessons that give a Biblical perspective on events, people, literature, science, and language. Teachers have a variety of materials and activities that bring academic rigor to learning. The resources have clearly defined learning objectives, questions that promote critical thinking, and assessments. Please visit our website happyhollowca.com for more information and also www.bjupress.com for the program goals.

HHCA uses a curriculum called Purposeful Design for Bible. Purposeful Design gives students opportunities to follow after Jesus and accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior. Students learn about Jesus through scripture memorization and Bible lessons that teach about Christ’s character. You can learn more about Purposeful Design by going to the website https://your.acsi.org/bible .
HHCA also uses a phonics curriculum called Really Great Reading. This curriculum is research based, interactive, explicit, structured, and multi-sensory. The teachers are provided with materials that are engaging and age appropriate that makes the learning process enjoyable.
